On Sunday, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Champai Soren, expressed serious concerns regarding the current government's insensitivity towards the tribal community under Hemant Soren's leadership. He highlighted a significant lack of will to implement the PESA (Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act.
While addressing the Tribal Mahadarbar, Soren mentioned that during his tenure as Chief Minister, he had reviewed the PESA Act and included specific provisions aimed at financially empowering traditional village councils. However, he criticized the present administration for failing to take any action on these provisions.
Soren urged the tribal community to unite and initiate a new movement to safeguard their traditions, identity, and culture, drawing inspiration from their ancestors such as Baba Tilka Manjhi, Sidho-Kanho, Poto Ho, Chand Bhairav, and Birsa Munda.
